Project Designer/Manager – Utilities and Telecommunications

About the Role

Engineering Responsibilities:
• Reports to Principal Engineer.
• Design power distribution and street lighting systems for residential/commercial developments.
• Demonstrated experience on overhead third-party attachment analysis on utility poles using SPIDAcalc.
• Understanding SPIDAcalc reports.
• Complete pole line design assessments/calculations using SPIDAcalc is an asset.
• Maintain critical project information, drawings, files, spreadsheets, and records.
• Supervises and mentors Engineering Technologists/Technicians.
• Inspect job sites during and after construction for compliance with specs.
• Attend design and project meetings as required.
• Other job-related duties as assigned.
• Salary will be based upon experience.

Project Management Responsibilities:
• Manages projects through design, approval, coordination, construction, and assumption phases.
• Contract administration including tendering, award, quantity review, completion, and assumption stages.
• Assists with the procurement of new business for the Company.
• Communicates with all project stakeholders.
• Maintains critical project information, drawings, files, spreadsheets, and records.
• Supervises and mentors Engineering Technologists/Technicians.
• Job site visits as required for interpretation of construction drawing, and for general compliance with specs.
• Attends design and project meetings as required.
• Manage project budget, schedule, and deliveries.
• Monitor project budgets & tracks the spending to the budget.
• Problem-solving resource allocation issues within the Group.
• Facilitate project related problem solving and issue resolution by engaging pertinent parties and expertise as required.
• Ensure that critical project work has been verified at key milestones by facilitating design review
mechanisms.
• Maintain the integrity of the project management tool and other group software, ensuring licenses and
updates are kept current and users are utilizing them effectively.

Requirements


·         Graduate of University program in Electrical Engineering.

·         E.I.T.

·         2+ years experience in power distribution environment preferred.

·         Computer literate, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs.

·         Excellent working knowledge of Autocad and MicroStation drafting software.

·         Working knowledge of photometric calculation software for roadway/ area lighting.

·         Knowledge of power distribution system fundamentals, O.E.S.C., CSA Standards and distribution system specs.

·         Familiarity with health and safety legislation.

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills – good command of the English language, (written and oral).

·         Organized in time management and priority setting.

·         Creative and goal oriented independent thinker.

·         Must have a valid driver’s licence and own car.

·         Prepared to work occasional evenings or weekends.

·         Demonstrated experience in Municipal Consent (MC) submissions for underground infrastructure.

·         An understanding of a Make-Ready process.

·         An understanding of utility requirements and standards when it comes to Make-Ready process.

·         Knowledge of Internet Service Provider (ISP) assets.

·         Exposure to underground Railway and conservation permit crossings is an asset.

·         Interactions with contractors that perform Make-Ready and Third-party attachments is an asset.

·         Exposure to underground utility leasing practises is an asset.

·         Understanding basic telecommunication diagrams is an asset.

·         An understanding of permit application requests to comply with O. Reg 22/04 is an asset.
